Smart Mobility: Fragmentation of the global standards for
wireless communications means that UMTS will never be truly
Universal. Devices will be faced with choice: trade-offs of
coverage, cost, bandwidth and availability need to be made, and
without involving the user actively or passively

Air Interface: UMTS and subsequent standards will comprise a host of
technologies rather than one system. Subscribers want services
enabled by cheap, high-bandwidth wireless, they are not worried
about the delivery mechanism. Manufacturers want design and
component reuse and fast time to market

Optimisation: This is a consumer electronics industry. There are two
parameters that are always at the heart of this industry: cost and
power consumption. The latter is an increasing problem as
functionality rises, stimulated by higher bandwidth air interfaces

Interactions: Everything about the way that people interact with
communications products drives differentiation and margin. The
use model for mobiles particularly is far from perfect
